Amy Simpson
Executive Director / Speech Language Pathologist, Programs for Infants and Children (PIC)
kindergarten ready Network

How long have you been with PIC?
I have been with PIC for nearly 20 years.

What do you like about working for PIC?
The challenge of coordinating with so many community partners, the reward of helping children, and the diversity of the families served.

What made you want to join the 90% by 2020 Partnership?
I believe if we want kids to graduate high school, then we have to start from birth preparing them and building a strong foundation for later school success.

What project(s) in the Network are you involved in?
Data Project

How does your day-to-day work relate to the 90% by 2020 Partnership?
At PIC, we work with families of very young children (birth to three years of age) who experience delays in their development for one reason or another.  I have seen children who are able to catch up to their peers with support from a specialized team of providers helping families help their children learn new skills.  If every child and family who is struggling receives support, they can be kindergarten ready, graduate, and be prepared for life.

What do you hope for the future of the network/projects?
I am a big fan of the concept that no one organization can do it alone.  I am looking forward to living in a community where everyone is instrumental in supporting children to be kindergarten ready.  I am interested in how the Help Me Grow program can be incorporated into this network to expand the partners and have a greater impact.
