Karen King, President and CEO of Spawn, grew up in a small town in Minnesota, thinking the only job options for women were to be a nurse, teacher, secretary, airline stewardess or mother. So she ignored a career survey that said she should be an advertising executive. Which is exactly what she is today.
Because King wasn’t aware of her options as a teenager, she has become a strong advocate for adults helping students to realize the job opportunities that are available. Spawn now offers job shadowing opportunities for local high school students, and the results have been an eye opening experience for the participants.
